THE REFLECTION OF DOING A BLOG

This is my first research blog, all the articles I post here is one part of the journey of my MA project. By doing this blog, I noticed that my research topic has been changed. It may not change, but the concept definitely changed, and the way I’d like to present it also changed. There are some articles at the beginning, the pictures are in black and white, it because during that period I was kind of get lost. Also, there has been a 2 week gap in my blog in which I didn’t publish any content due to my reflection. I noticed  as a jewellery and metalwork student, it’s better for me to do a Logbook of material samples, textures…etc. However, they are pros and cons in both (Blog and Logbook), on 3rd March, I post an article to show why I decided to do both (Blog and Logbook). I have started taking the photos from my Logbook, then publish them on my Blog.

To me, by doing a Blog this does effectively help me, because I’m able to store my saved the data on the internet. Moreover, I’m able to share interesting videos on my Blog. Another advantage of using the blog is the functional tools since I’m able to find my sources easier by using the customizer setting of it. I hope my audience will found it is interesting to visit my Blog.

The videos below shows that how his work move, also he recored how he made his work via video as well. It is a brilliant idea for artists to record the work via photos or videos. I used to recored all my processes of jewellery making. It is an interesting experience, but also lead me think nowadays people’s living style are completely different. Things always have two sides, it is really hard to distinguish what is the norm of right and wrong. Also on the way how we see things, everyone has different view sides, it’s really subjective. Can you tell ” Is bad art art? Is bad art bad? ” (Ratajski, 2010).

Take Yoon for example, the way he creates his art is really interesting. Also, the way he explores his journey also interesting. He combines two different aspects, structural form and mechanical form to express his Kinetic crafts.

On 3rd of March, I started to search some kinetic jewellery artists, there were plenty of sources for that. There’s a blog called ” the carrotbox “, it requires a lots of interesting jewellery crafts inside. However, there was an artist, Sarah Doremus, her work is interesting, but there’s a work called ” Ohmigod ” ↓, it’s a puppet ring , also which gave me a creepy feeling.

Doremus uses some objects that are easy to be found, some parts of dolls and metal to create her work. She’s really interesting in Kinetic art, especially Kinetic jewellery.

The idea of her work is also interesting, she noticed that mobiles, MP3 players and some personal electronic equipment become really common in our life, that is the reason why them have a really important position in jewellery. She questions this stander by functioning in a way that is both absurd and completely unnecessary (Doremus, 2013) .

The reason why I started to build this timber craft is because I’d like to get the knowledge about how to make things move from the beginner’s step. I always find this kind of DIY is really interesting, it can help me to get the knowledge about how to create an easy movement art. Some people may think it is irrelevant for masters study, however, to me this process is essential for me to explore a competently different aspect, due to I’d like to create something requires movement.

By building this craft, I learnt the structure about how to make this work move. Also, even there is a guidebook inside of the kits, but I still bumped some problems between the building period. I learnt from the mistake, and I was really glad that I completed in the end.

After finished building, I kept thinking what is success? How to do something without failures and mistakes? Because there’s a guidebook, but I still made some steps wrong. Life, is not easy at all. But in this point, that’s the reason why life full of colors and flavors.

How do you think about the process to reach success?

or

What is your definition about success?

During the period that I was absorbing the inspirations from some artists, I found this artist, Pedro Reyes, Mexican, he used negative imagine to present positive. Gun, in most people’s imagination represent negative weapon. However, Reyes used guns to create some lovely instrument.

When I read the introduction about his work, let led me think about my MA project. My project may be too simple. Sometimes the art work may look simple, but there must have some meaningful ideas behind of it. Simple visual communication but meaningful, or complex structure buy meaningful. What is art exactly? In my views, good art supposes to lead the audience think, the art supposes to be thought provoking.
