SIGURD BRONGER – GOLDSMITH ART, COMTEMPORTARY JEWELLERY

“Stay curious, and a pure idea will automatically come to you.”

—Sigurd Bronger

This artist is the one my tutor recommend, the materials that Bronger uses in his work is quite interesting. I found this book in the library. Also, I’ve been read an interview by Olivia Shih, she asked him,

” Your signature work is known for its generous dosage of readymade and surrealism, coupled with a sense of absurdity. Do you approach everyday life with a similar humor? “

The Bronger replied,

Yes! Very often I do. I look around and often find myself in absurd situations. Each new absurd experience teaches me more about myself—through how I react and how I behave.

For some reasons I like the way he answer this question. For artists, everyone has different way to get their own inspiration. Also, every time we create our own work is like we get into a brand new environment which allow us to gain more knowledge by doing it.

“The artist goes through states of fullness and emptiness, and that is all there is no mystery of art.”

– Pablo Picasso, 1954

Today is the first day that I upload my blog after my MA project Task 1 submission day. Recently I’ve been read some books in order to gain more knowledge about jewellery and metalwork. There is a jeweller called Wendy Ramshaw, British. Her work is really impress me, one of the book named Picasso’s Ladies, which introduces plenty of her work. It is really intriguing. The reason for this are Picasso is one of my favour artists. Secondly, some of Ramshaw’s work contents the idea of my MA project. Therefore, I found it is exacting to appreciate her work.

The videos below shows that how his work move, also he recored how he made his work via video as well. It is a brilliant idea for artists to record the work via photos or videos. I used to recored all my processes of jewellery making. It is an interesting experience, but also lead me think nowadays people’s living style are completely different. Things always have two sides, it is really hard to distinguish what is the norm of right and wrong. Also on the way how we see things, everyone has different view sides, it’s really subjective. Can you tell ” Is bad art art? Is bad art bad? ” (Ratajski, 2010).

Take Yoon for example, the way he creates his art is really interesting. Also, the way he explores his journey also interesting. He combines two different aspects, structural form and mechanical form to express his Kinetic crafts.

When I read the introduction about his work, let led me think about my MA project. My project may be too simple. Sometimes the art work may look simple, but there must have some meaningful ideas behind of it. Simple visual communication but meaningful, or complex structure buy meaningful. What is art exactly? In my views, good art supposes to lead the audience think, the art supposes to be thought provoking.

The reason why I collect this artist is because his work is really stunning, and it could be one of my design inspiration. Especially he used plenty of different objects to create portraits. Mechanicsim requires a lot of details in the work, therefore the idea of collecting different objects could be a good idea  for me to look at.

” Deconstructing photos of actual paintings by such masters as rembrandt and nicolaes eliasz pickenoy, mapes recreates the original picture piece by piece, using countless collage materials and even biological findings like eyelashes and hair. the painstaking detail is almost unimaginable; tiny fragments carefully positioned on the tops of pins are complied closely next to each other. ” (Designboom®, 2014).
